Assigning Cards to Staff

Assigning Cards to Staff

Every Card must be assigned to a specific named staff member before it is distributed. An unassigned Card that triggers an emergency cannot tell responders who pressed it or provide accurate location data. Never distribute a Card without completing the assignment first.

How to assign a Card

There are four ways to assign a Card. Use whichever fits your workflow. In every method, the Card's name automatically updates to the assigned staff member's name once saved. You can change the name of the Card at any time.

From the Users tab (recommended) Go to the Users tab in the dashboard. Find the staff member you want to assign a Card to. In the Device column next to their name, click the dropdown and select the Card you want to assign. The assignment saves automatically and the Card is renamed to that user's name.

From the Devices tab Go to the Devices tab in the dashboard and find the Card you want to assign. Click the gear icon on the right side of its row to open the device settings panel. Scroll down to Assign User, select the staff member from the dropdown, and click Save.

From the Rescue Mobile app: Manual assignment Open the Rescue Mobile app and go to the Devices page in the bottom menu. Select the Cards tab. Tap the three dots on the Card you want to assign and select Assign Card. Choose the staff member from the dropdown and tap Save. The Card is now assigned and renamed.

From the Rescue Mobile app: QR code scan Open the Rescue Mobile app and go to the Cards page in the bottom menu. Tap Scan Card QR Code and use your camera to scan the QR code on the back of the Card. The Card is immediately assigned to the user who is currently logged in and the Card name updates automatically. This method is ideal for self-assignment — have each staff member log into the app and scan their own Card.

What staff can see after their Card is assigned

Once a Card is assigned, the staff member can log into the Rescue Mobile app and:

  • See their assigned Card and its location
  • View and update their display name
  • View and update their contact information

Encourage all Card-carrying staff to download the mobile app, log in, and confirm they can see their assigned Card before their first shift. This also ensures they are set up to receive emergency notifications if they are assigned the Responder role.
